Why the design editor WOGG TM is constantly achieving new mastery and how creative collaborations create powerful dynamics.
The Wogg collection is a constantly growing collection of strong individual pieces that could hardly be more different.
Held together by simplicity and sophistication, detached from modernity or even fashion, the solitaire characterizes a casual, international elegance. Each individual piece of furniture always has a clever function and can be used in many different ways, represents interesting technical solutions and exudes that certain something. To this day, the guiding star in every new project is: thinking radically differently, in craftsmanship and design, and thereby arriving at unexpected solutions - constructive, typological and aesthetic. This fearless attitude has meant that Wogg can regularly add new, extraordinary stories to design history.
Every single number in the entire collection relies on two core competencies that Wogg has developed to mastery. First: to redevelop or interpret materials in previously unseen ways for the living and working world. Without innovative manufacturing processes, without "Swiss engineering" in the precise processing of aluminum, plastic, HPL, wood and textiles, many of today's iconic products would not have existed.
Secondly, the company builds on creative collaborations with experienced architects and carpenters, established designers and young talents. A powerful dynamic emerged again and again, with authors such as Trix and Robert Haussmann, Ludwig Roner, Benny Mosimann, Jörg Boner, Christophe Marchand, Atelier Oï, Frédéric Dedelley, Stefan Zwicky, Adrian Meyer, Hannes Wettstein, Franz Polzhofer, Marco Zaccheo, Richard Wassmann , Johann Munz, Masayuki Kurokawa, Alfredo Häberli, Loris & Livia or Matthieu Girel spurred us to think up new typologies. The result is furniture classics such as the Litfass column, the rolling cabinets, the elliptical towers and the stackable chairs.
Dazzling visionaries and masters of their craft, such as the sculptural-architectural-minded Ubald Klug, the visual propagandist and brilliant advertiser Alfred Hablützel, the enthusiastic inventor Willi Glaeser, the art and culture connoisseur Otto Glasses, the demanding quality advocate Hans Eichenberger and the quiet creator Gerd Lange , breathed their soul into the first workpieces and gave the Wogg brand its foundation. The modular shelf, a multifunctional bed, the very light table, a practical suitcase cupboard and the convertible counter - all designs from the zeitgeist of the 80s; yet timelessly valid in its intelligence, ambition and user orientation.
It takes courage and a sense of adventure to take new paths and dare to do something. Ideas tend to be fantastic, the answers to them often have to be worked out in long development processes, and of course it is important to overcome setbacks, acknowledge failures and constantly rethink things. The simple is often the difficult.
The strength of the Wogg company comes from all of the above-mentioned personalities and their willingness to help develop design and industrial culture. As drivers of a new awareness of quality, they shaped aesthetics, form and function here and elsewhere in the design scene and became an avant-garde in the international way of life. The constant, constructive and critical exchange between owners and external creatives was and is fundamental. Wogg chose collaboration when respectful collegiality was rare in product development. Today they look back on over 40 years of shared experience.
In the future, unusual ideas await, and the search will continue for innovative use or re-use of materials, for rare surfaces, for clever connections and unseen shapes. Even in the founding years of WOGG, from 1983 onwards, humanity, naturalness, emotion and individualization were to be reflected in the furniture. All four values are more relevant than ever. In its spirit, the company strives to work locally as a design editor with the right production partners around the world in the long term - at a Swiss quality level.
The seductive motto of the Wogg makers is: “Experimenting means learning”. It follows quite naturally from this that every new project follows the well-known inner calling - namely to achieve new mastery and to fill products with soul.
